Sinus Lift Causes & Procedure
Causes
Loss of jawbone is caused by low bone density or disease, and it may prevent you from getting any dental implants to replace any missing teeth. If such is the case with you, you can restore your bone structure with either a sinus lift graft or a bone grafting procedure. A sinus lift graft is specifically designed to restore bone to your upper jaw. This procedure will leave your jawbone healthier and much stronger.
Procedure
The course of this procedure involves taking 3D X-rays of your mouth in order to assess your bone structure. From there, we’ll make a small incision in your gums, and delicately lift the sinus membrane just above the jawbone. After we place the grafting material between your jaw and membrane, we’ll suture the incision area. Grafting will enable the development of a healthy bone structure in the area.
Depending on what your individual needs are, your bone will normally be given a 12-month period to develop before implants are placed. Once implants are placed, more healing time will be required. In certain cases, implants can be placed just as the sinus is being augmented. Once everything is complete, we will then successfully place implants.
Sinus lift graft has shown to greatly boost your chances of having your implants placed successfully for years to come. The procedure provides minimal discomfort and pain.
